Plenary Session II (PS2)
08.10.2026 09:00- 10:30
Margarete-Bieber-Saal (MBS)
Moderator: Julia Gebert & Andreas Haarstrick
This second Plenary Session focusses on the enablers and disablers of safeguarding water resources due to risks to ground- and surface water quality caused by contamination. Using the example of PFAS, this session examines the link between the high risks to human health and the environment, the enormous clean-up costs and their technical feasibility and, on the other hand, the effectiveness of the policy frameworks designed to reduce contaminant release. We discuss how risks could be effectively mitigated and which steps would be required to achieve this. How efficient are the decision-making processes and the implementation of effective measures, and what constructive role do stakeholders from the worlds of industry, science, politics and society play in this regard?
