Title From Planning to Action: Climate-sensitive river basin planning and Application of Ecosystem-based Adaptation in Thai water sector
Objective(s) 1.   To provide an overview of the initiatives produced by the Thai-German Climate Programme and exchange experiences

2.   To explore opportunities for SDG localization in the Thai water sector

Abstract The challenges of water management in Thailand have become increasingly complex due to a growing population, rapid urbanization, changes in land use, outdated water supply infrastructure, and impacts from climate change. TGCP-Water (with Office of the National Water Resources) aimed to develop climate-resilient water resources management at the national and subnational levels by integrating climate change adaptation into key processes in the Thai water sector. TGCP-Water provided knowledge, products, and tools from policy development to implementation.
Several activities were conducted, including the systematic integration of ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) into river basin planning processes, the development of technical guidance documents for planning and implementing EbA, and the building of capacity and multistakeholder collaboration. The goal is to prevent and reduce the impacts of climate change and water-related disasters at national and river basin levels.
This session will provide an opportunity to share knowledge about climate-sensitive river basin planning and the application of ecosystem-based adaptation.
In addition to exploring opportunities for SDG localization in the Thai water sector, we will have a panel discussion on “IWRM and climate change adaptation in the water sector.”
